Susana Viegas at the Science and Technology of the Arts Seminars 2025

Susana Viegas will be giving a seminar on "Film and Death" at the Science and Technology of the Arts Seminars 2025 (CITAR/Escola das Artes, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto) on March 25.

Abstract How can films serve as a medium for metaphilosophical exploration? In what ways do they invite reflection on death and mortality? What does it mean to suggest that engaging in film-philosophy is akin to learning to die or preparing for death? The talk will introduce and explore the philosophical notion of the death-image, examining how films depict human and non-human characters confronting their own mortality and the deeper existential questions these portrayals evoke.
