Cátia Rodrigues

Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (Lisbon, Portugal)

Cátia Rodrigues (Porto, 1995) is a film programmer and researcher working at the intersection of film theory, aesthetics, and contemporary moving-image practices. She is currently a PhD candidate in Artistic Studies at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, NOVA University of Lisbon. She holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of Porto (2020) and an MA in Aesthetics and Artistic Studies (2023), where she developed the dissertation The Gesture of Showing in Abbas Kiarostami: An Analysis Based on Wittgenstein and Agamben, reflecting her broader engagement with philosophical approaches to cinema. Alongside her academic work, she operates within the field of film curation and exhibition. She collaborates as a film programmer with Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival and BEAST International Film Festival, and since 2021 has curated Mostra de Primeiras Curtas at Livraria Térmita (Porto). She is a member of the editorial board of La Furia Umana, a journal focused on film theory and history, and previously served as an editor at Krino Ifilnova. Her writing has been published in À Pala de Walsh, Krino Ifilnova, La Furia Umana, Aniki - Revista Portuguesa da Imagem em Movimento, Lote, Variety, among others. She has been a research collaborator at FILM AND DEATH since September 2025, contributing to the development of the project's third goal (P3): Close-Up on Film-Philosophical Death.
