Susana Viegas at the International Symposium on Dying Places

It is an honour for Susana Viegas to take part in the "International Symposium on Dying Places", taking place on 11-12 March 2026 at the Club University Foundation, Brussels (Rue d’Egmont 11).

On 12 March, 11:30-12:30, she will join the panel “A Global Lens on End of Life Care Taking Place into Account: Insights from ERC Research”, chaired by Lino Paula (Head unit Social Sciences & Humanities at ERC) and Jeroen Hasselaar (Professor at Radboud University Medical Center and President of the European Association for Palliative Care).

The panel brings together ERC Grantees engaged in cross-national research on end-of-life care and death, including Lara Pivodic (TRAJECT, Research Professor at VUB), Jenny van der Steen (CONT-END, Associate Professor at LUMC), Anna Elsner (ASSISTED, Associate Professor at the University of St Gallen), and Barbara Gomes (EOLinPLACE, Research Professor at the University of Coimbra), who is also the organiser of the symposium.

The discussion will foreground how diverse ERC-funded projects, spanning empirical, clinical, policy-oriented, and cultural approaches, including film-based research, contribute complementary insights into the ways place, care practices, representation, and policy contexts shape end-of-life experiences.

The full program is available here.
